Manual sorting tasks in a project does not work and does not affect tasks displaying in the list of "next" menu.
Why does then "next" menu need for?

I'm not sure why the sorting is not working there. I'll investigate that right now.

The "Next" view is for next actions, if you follow the Getting Things Done methodology. Right now, if you create subtasks, they will be added to the Next view automatically. The plan, too, is to create an option within projects so that each step is sequential. This means that when you finish one task, the next task in line will be moved into the Next view so that you're always working on the most relevant item in your project.

I'm totally agree with this point of view, but in fact now in DT it doesn't work in the way you've described.

Right now the "Next" view is completely manual. I'm currently working on "sequential" projects which will automatically assign the next action for you.

Hi! Any news on this?

I created a new proyect with B, A, D, C tasks (sorted in that way manually) and In Settings > Next View Layout > Show project tasks = 1

In that way, It appears one task in Next list and when that task is finished it will appear the next one and so on... That's what I expected but the problem is that it doesn't follow the manual order B, A, D, C... it does it alphabetically, first it will appear A in Next list, when this one is finished, B will appear, and so on...

is this a bug or is this functionality intended for another purpose or am I doing anything wrong??

Thank you very much for your support.

No, it's an oversight. I added the manual sorting much later than the next view, so I never updated it to reflect that. I'll fix that today.
