I haven't had much time to work on this lately, but I've recently come up with a new possible design and I'd like some opinions.

 

In the current version there is the "orb" menu in the upper-left corner. For version 2 I'm choosing to go with a new menu design. Here is a mockup of what I was thinking:

 

Is this acceptable or would everyone prefer a more traditional menubar with toolbar actions?

 

Secondly, I was thinking about the left-side design and was thinking of moving the focus, project, context, ... buttons from the toolbar (in order to minimize its height) over to the left, like this:

 

The nice part about this is that it would support drag and drop properly so you can more easily move tasks from projects to contexts, etc.

 

The other way I was think was to combine everything into a giant list in the sidebar, but I had originally tried that with version 1 and it wasn't too popular.

 

Either way, I would like to hear from everyone on these designs. And, if you have better suggestions I welcome those, too. I want to make the workflow a lot more streamlined and better for everyone.

How about the sidebar? Do you like the separate buttons like in the screenshot or would you like them combined?

What I was thinking was like in the second screenshot where you see "Collect" and "Focus". I was thinking of continuing along that line with "Projects", "Contexts", etc.

I'm sorry if this isn't the right place for this but I have a suggestion.  I would like the option of looking at the 'week' view and seeing a list of that week's tasks instead of having to select each day to see the tasks for that day. That way if I have a few minutes free, I might be able to jump ahead more easily.  Just a thought.

 

Love the program.  I have been looking at several task/project systems and really like what you've done so I just purchased. Thanks!

Its great, but it would be more great to redraw icons and windows in new style. I think it would be looking great in minimalistic win8 style, like Office2013.

And as there was already said it needs a week view, to see a grid of tasks, like in calendars.

@conkling: This is the perfect place to ask for this. And, I'm reworking the entire week view because, like you, I'm not sure it's 100% useful in its current state.

@balabunat: I had actually tried this late last year and I found that the amount of whitespace was awful. I tried filling up the space with data, but on a 1920x1200 monitor it was just plain ugly (I also feel this way about Office 2013). So, right now I'm trying to find a good balance between the two. I do want it to look more modern, but not stark like the current trend in Windows software. I think Microsoft has taken the flat design a little too far. So, it's a work in progress, which I hope to get back to as I've had to divert my attention back to version 1 in order to get it stable.
